not happy with how it worked with windows 7 September 8, 2010 Jonathan Barrios The graphics on the software are nice, when it works. However, I could only get it to recognize my computer intermittently. I wanted to back up the family photos. I talked to their tech support and they told me to upgrade the firmware but wouldnt stay on the phone with me. I made numerous attempts to upgrade to a higher version, but that just didnt take. It would work sometimes but not consistently. I returned it and bought a segate instead and that works much better.
So far so good. Only used once so far... September 8, 2010 Vinicius Moreira (Franklinton, Louisiana United States) Pros:
1. Fairly large capacity for a fair price;
2. Easy connect with fast USB2;
3. No start buttons;
4. Small size.
Cons:
1. 2 TB turns out to be 1.81 TB... though still a good deal;
2. Lack of an accompanying backup software, although there are many free programs for download on the web...
Very Good Value September 8, 2010 Audio Dave (Western Mass.) From the time the postman handed me the box, to the time this drive was up and running, was less than 15 minutes.
I have the drive connected to the USB port on my Netgear WNR3500L wireless router, so I am using it as remote storage for all the computers in the house.
It works, it runs cool, it's easily accessible from all my computers, there is no preloaded junk on it, and it cost less than 70 bucks. What more can I say.
Western Digital Elements 2 Tb external usb 2.0 Hard Drive September 7, 2010 S. Smith I have only had this a short Time(a few weeks) but this drive works easily, even flawlessly so far. I have used this drive with Windows Vista(UGHH!!)
and Ubuntu 10.04. I have had so far, NO problems with it. It does have the weird quirk of very quickly copying files at first, then with decreasing speed, but I can easily live with this, I have had far more serious quirks with computer related stuff. It plateaus at about 400 kb/s.
Extremely slow, no power button. September 7, 2010 Tristan Terry 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My external USB hard drives usually take about 1 minute to write 1gb of data to itself. This one takes about 2-3 minutes per gb of data. Thats ridiculous. There is no power button, so when I turn my computer on it turns on. What if I dont want it on? Its a waste of energy to have it on if I dont want it on. So I have to plug in to turn it on, unplug it to turn it off. Why couldnt they have just put a 13cent power button on it?
