4 out of 5 stars If U have reasonable expectations, u will like this stand   July 13, 2010
Ran Kravania (Philadelphia, PA USA)
I bought a few of these stands because of the price and that I am not going to be breaking them down a lot. I just set up my ephoto 16" beauty dish with honeycomb filter on it today and it works great! I wouldn't expect to use it if I were to be traveling a lot and having to tear it down and set it up repeatedly. The fact is, for basic use, like in a studio, it's perfectly fine. But I wouldn't expect it to last long if I did a lot of location shooting. It's good for what it is supposed to be. I give it 5 stars because I don't expect to be using it for heavy duty work. It looks good and professional. It is machined well.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good   July 7, 2010

Its a pretty good product for the price.
The only thing i didnt like about it is that its a bit to light.
Still I find many uses with it in my studio.

3 out of 5 stars Nice inexpenisive back up stand   July 5, 2010
distance runner
Nice product in general. I went with 3 stars because for me the product works very well. Please keep in mind that I use these stands with small lights/softboxes. I would not recommend using these stands with large heavy lights/modifiers - Your Mileage May Vary. For the money this is a decent product. Having said that, I'm pretty sure it would not hold up under the strain of extensive daily use as it is somewhat cheaply made. I have two of these stands and I use them about 3-4 times a month for my artistic photography and for basic head-shots. I use these stands exclusively with Photoflex Litedome XS softboxes and wireless Nikon SB-900's hotshoe strobes. This setup is extremely portable, lightweight and has a very small footprint. I can grab the whole setup with one hand and place it most anywhere.

3 out of 5 stars Worked good while it lasted....   June 27, 2010

This light stand works as advertised and as the most of the reviews here say it does. It is very wobbly at the higher end of the stand due to how light it is so you will need to put some weight on it SOMEHOW or get someone to hold it down if you have an umbrella or softbox or sometimes even nothing but a speedlight depending on how much the wind is blowing.

The reason why i said it worked good etc. but only gave it 3 stars is because this was my very first light stand so I thought it was awesome before i broke it accidentally. The stand would blow over alot and wasnt too stable on uneven ground due to the base size when extended is not wide at all. So i decided to try to put some weight on it but this broke the spring which only holds up to 5.5lbs which the wind can still blow over. Needless to say this is a good stand for indoor stuff or if you always want an assistant holding it, but if you dont have either of these luxuries (and i mean a assistant that works for you and not just a friend who will help you on some occasions) then this stand is not for you.

There is a impact 9.5ft light stand on B&H that sells for around $40 that will support up to 22lbs and is air cushioned rather than spring controlled that hasnt let me down and is very stable on all occasions but is bigger obviously and weights a lil more than this one. I would highly recommend that one for an all purpose stand.

4 out of 5 stars Light Stand Works for Me   May 30, 2010
Sean P. Tolan (Portland, OR)
I ordered this stand as an extra for when I go on location shoots. It is not the best stand for a windy day, but provided an economical solution for many location shoots I have in local parks. It is also currently in use in my studio, and I have yet to have any problems with it. The stand is not air cushioned, but the other day I went to lower my light and did not have a good hold on it. The stand was collapsing very fast and reached the bottom. It was spring loaded so it did not damage my light. All in all it was a good bargain, and serves my needs as a professional.
