I first came across an issue of Kateigaho International in a small Japanese bookstore in Arlington Heights, Illinois a few years ago. Since then, it's been a point of devotion for me. I have never seen another Japanese arts & culture magazine that maintains such high standards in copywriting, photography, editing, and printing. In addition to that, it's printed in English, which is great for those of us whose ability in speaking the Japanese language is less than ideal. While it does not come cheaply, the quality of the magazine is so high that as soon as the first issue arrives one forgets the price almost immediately. My collection of issues sits together on the bookcase, never stacked on the coffee table with the other magazines. It's just too good to be treated poorly.
